CDP Injection Only Touches Appearance, Never the App Itself
- The Codex desktop app is built on Electron, and the Mac build uses local debug port 9341 for the Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP) connection.
- The skinning tool connects to that port on your already-running Codex window and injects custom CSS and background assets in real time — this only happens in runtime memory.
- The whole process never modifies app.asar (the Electron app's packaged bundle) and never touches the code signature — the official installer stays exactly as it was.
- Nothing is uploaded to any third-party server — the tool doesn't need your code or account information and never reads it.
Skins Never Talk to OpenAI's Servers
Ban risk usually comes from abnormal account behavior — automated scripts hammering the API, forged request headers pretending to be a different client, or logging in through unofficial channels. Skinning has nothing to do with any of that: it only changes the local visual appearance, and never intercepts, alters, or forges any network request to OpenAI's servers.
In other words, every request your client sends after skinning uses the exact same official client logic and account state as before — there's no extra behavior for any risk system to flag, so there's no mechanism that could trigger a ban.
Images Are Processed Locally — Skin Packages Contain No Scripts

The skin package itself only contains image assets and config files (JSON/CSS describing colors, light/dark theming, and layout positions) — no executable scripts of any kind. It has no way to read your account information, chat history, or local files, let alone send them anywhere.
Restore the Official Look in One Click
If you decide you don't want it anymore, run the "restore official look" script at any time: it disconnects the CDP injection, and once you reopen Codex the interface returns to the stock official look instantly, with no leftover files.
